Char Dham Yatra to Begin from May 2 This Year

The beautiful state of Uttarakhand, often called as “Dev Bhoomi-the land of Gods” is recovering from one of the most distressing natural calamities, which happened last year. This Himalayan state is trying to gear up to revive its tourism sector right from the roots, it became devastating by beginning with the annual Char Dham Yatra which is starting from May first week. With this announcement, the tour operators in the city and country are hoping to restore the lost glory of this beautiful place.

This year, like always Char Dham Yatra tour of Uttarakhand will start with Yamunotri and Gangotri opening for pilgrims on May 2, the Kedarnath on May 4 and consecutively, Badrinath on May 5, 2014. It should be noted that over 50 pilgrims from the city have already booked through Uttarakhand Tourism’s Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) office at Paryatak Bhavan.chardham_yatra_2014

Speaking about the real condition of dhams and preparations of yatra, Kailash Kothari, public relations officer of GMVN, Paryatak Bhawan said that all dhams, except Kedarnath have been restored entirely. In addition, the roads and accommodation facilities are also repaired.

Informing more regarding the Yatra to Kedarnath, which was the epicenter of the last year’s devastating flash floods, he said, “In order to reach Kedarnath Dham, pilgrims can go till Sonprayag by road and then, need to trek for around 12 kms from there to reach the shrine. As, there is no arrangement of accommodation available near the shrine, the pilgrims will be taken back soon after Darshan. In this case, helicopters are ideal for elders”, he added. It is a known fact that Andhra Pradesh is at the top in the number of Char Dham pilgrims every year.chardham-Yatra

Further, regarding the added security features for the pilgrims, he said that this time the government is taking all the personal details of each pilgrim and giving biometric ID cards to every registered traveler, which they have to punch at at least 15 places throughout the Yatra. The upcoming Yatra season will extend till August and September. However, helicopter services won’t be available after June, when the season of monsoon begins.

In the finishing stance, Mr. Kothari said that we want to send as many pilgrims as possible this year successfully, because only by the spread of word the scared people can come out of last year’s flood fear. The government has done everything possible to ensure the safety of pilgrims, he added.
