Originating from Wayanad district of the state of Kerala state from the confluence of Panamaram River and Mananthavady River, Kabini River joins Kaveri River in the east at Tirumakudalu Narasipura in Karnataka. The river forms the massive Kabini Reservoir near the town of Sargur. The backwaters of the Kabini Reservoir enjoy rich wildlife particularly in summer when the water level goes back to form rich grassy meadows.
Kabini dam is 58 meters high and 2,284 feet long. It was built in 1974 across Kabini River near Bichanahalli village and can be accessible from Heggadadevanakote.
